Choosing The Base Bike
The stock Harley-Davidson Electra Glide 88 cubic inch engine is 1450 cc and produces around 52 HP and 66 Ft-lbs of torque so it was decided to go with a limited edition Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Electra Glide (SEEG) 103 cubic inch engine which is 1690 cc. This stroker motor is also big bore so one of only 6 yellow Harley Davidson SEEGs to come into the UK. It was ordered from Chapel Ash Harley-Davidson in Wolverhampton in summer 2004.
The limited production SEEG in standard format produces around 83 HP and 79 Ft-lbs of torque. A little research revealed that much more could be produced from this engine by applying a well thought out number of modifications. None of these modifications alone would produce a significant increase but a wise combination could bring the required results.
The use of a supercharger or nitrous oxide kit was ruled out due to a need to retain reliability. The work would focus on helping the motor to breath.
It is common for most Harleys to have a Stage 1 tune done by the Harley dealership. This includes fitting a less restrictive exhaust pipe and air cleaner together with a re-chipping of the electronic fuel injection (Efi). This might of achieve figures of around 90 HP and 90 Ft-lbs of torque but more was required.
